Daily Bible Verse - 7/16/2007 - Psalm 74:16
The day is yours, and yours also the night;you established the sun and moon.(NIV)The day is thine, the night also is thine: thou hast prepared the light and the sun.(KJV)
Yours is the day, Yours also is the night; You have prepared the light and the sun. (NASB)
Psalm 74:16CommentaryIn His great works of creation (Gen. 1) God established His rule over day, night, light, and the sun. In addition, He established the seasons and set borders, a reference to the limitations He placed on the waters (Prov. 8:27-29).Radmacher, Earl D. ; Allen, Ronald Barclay ; House, H. Did you know?
On at least two occasions, He (God) interrupted the sun's regular course for His purposes. The sun stood still for Joshua at Gibeon (Josh. 10:13), and it went backwards for Hezekiah when he prayed for an extension of his life (Is. 38:8).God also has the power to darken the sun. The prophet Joel predicted He would do that on the day of the Lord (Joel 2:31). Three of the gospel writers (Matt. 27:45; Mark 15:33; Luke 23:44-45) tell us that the sun grew dark at the Crucifixion. At the end of the world, God will extinguish the sun (Rev. 6:12; 9:2; 21:23; 22:5).Youngblood, Ronald F. ; Bruce, F. F. ; Harrison, R.
